Good user management app Written by Steve Aunan from Sacramento, CA (Wednesday, February 12, 2003) Writer is with: http://www.calcsea.org/
Strengths: Easy setup, integrate with custom db, good user validation procedures Weaknesses: Cookie login fails, occasional IIS restart, FrontPage can't access protected folders Details: IISProtectQuota is integrated with our portal application database and various web admin pages. During the first couple weeks, I tried to use the cookie login method. That failed, but the basic auth login works fine (I recommend using SSL).
Tech support has been good. They provided a special build of the DLL when errors appeared, and helped track down the problem. IIS restart has not been necessary for several months.
Version 2.2 is now available. Successfully installed it last week.
Users can get password by e-mail, change password via form. I really like the quota functions: limit logins, hits, etc. And I don't have to use NT accounts to manage our users (we currently have 125.)
For the price, this app is great. I'd give it 5 stars if the cookie login worked. Review Based On: 12 Month(s) of usage
IIS Server stops responsing Written by Anonymous User (#1666-273) from Boston, MA (Friday, June 28, 2002)
Strengths: no comment Weaknesses: no comment Details: My server processes need to be restarted once I installed the product. I emailed tech support, looking for known problems or know incompatibilities, but I only got "we don't know of any problems" responses.
I am now looking for another product.
Beware the email only support policy Written by Anonymous User (#1457-205) from Milwaukee, WI (Sunday, May 19, 2002)
Strengths: no comment Weaknesses: no comment Details: When I first evaluated this product I thought it was great. However after using it for a few months and helping my web host support this product I am absolutely appalled at the horrendous support from the vendor. It takes 24 to 48 hours for an email reply. They don't work on weekends and they have no telephone number to call. Their support replies are terse phrases at best. If they need more information, they tell you and then your response is queued again for another 24 to 48 hour turnaround. The latest revelation is that this product does not support email addresses for usernames when you use the cookie based login. Apparently it does work with basic authentication but since when is authenticating with an email address a novel idea? My hope in writing the scathing critique is that the vendor will change their support policy and allow me to experience the real potential of iisProtect. In the meantime, I am ready to dump the product.
Great Interface and it works... Written by Anonymous User (#1336-175) from Mission, BC (Saturday, February 24, 2001)
Strengths: no comment Weaknesses: no comment Details: Most components and scripts I looked at before this had huge user lists and no way to navigate through them. I bought this because the interface makes sense; you click on letters to get pages of those users, you click on an user and get the data. There are some other bells and whistles they have but really this is not a complex application and the interface is what mattered to me.
