Strengths: Includes full-featured calendars and photo albums
Weaknesses: There may be installation problems if "parent paths" not turned on at host
Details: I installed this program with great success. What I really enjoy is that it offers the option to allow each user to have a personal, private calendar, and that you can set up as many calendars as you like. This feature alone is worth some bucks. Each user may have their own photo album. The forum messages may be posted with html. There is email notification with new posts. And much more...
With another account on the same host, I'm having some problems getting the script to run, due to a problem with "parent paths," but tech support will get that fixed for me. There is a workaround for that problem, however. Also, the script designer, Matt, gives terrific tech support.

Strengths: Fast, easy to use, easy to install and maintain, very flexible
Weaknesses: none come to mind
Details: I have used and ran a bunch of different message board software and I have to say out all of them MegaBBS is the best. You don't need to know much of anything to install and run these boards. Granted it helps to know asp if you would like to make code changes but they are not nessasary even when upgrading. I LOVE these boards!!!

Weaknesses: Why didn't I download this before?
Details: I'd been using a portal-based web site for some time now and was quite satisfied. When it came time to revamp my site, I just glanced through the BBS software. Never thought I'd find something I liked... but you never know.
MegaBBS caught my eye and I am THRILLED with it. I'm using it for a family and friends forum. I've never had SO MANY POSITIVE COMMENTS about any of my previous sites like I'm getting with this one! Everyone thinks I'm just a total guru! But I give all the credit to Matt, the author of MegaBBS. He has developed an AMAZING product! He's very approachable, and uses his own MegaBBS for support. When you visit his site, you'll immediatley notice that his end-users are in awe and very protective of him! That now includes me! AND IT'S FREE! Details: Have used this forum for 2 months now and it's incredible. When i first started using it was beta version 1.5.8 and now it's beta 1.5.12 in 2 months 4 new beta versions have been released and the features added each time are astounding.
Also in this time many useful MODs have been added by the users and many of the feature requests have been taken on board by the designer and developed as a part of the forum.
Megabbs is more than just a forum it's an invaluable tool for any community orientated site.
The installation process is easy and well documented, as is the upgrades for the version releases.

Weaknesses: What about a multi language interface?
Details: This is the most versatile free discussion forum I have found so far. Great it includes a fully functional calendar and poll. Looking foreward to the final release! The only disadvantage I discovered so far is that the code is not built to support a multilingal environment.
